TCM Star of the Month October 2025: Angela Lansbury

Angela Lansbury in Gaslight (October 16, 8:00 PM)

We're into the first week of a new month, and once again, that means it's time for a new Star of the Month on TCM. This time out, that star is Angela Lansbury, appropriate as the centenary of her birth is on October 16. TCM will be airing Lansbury's movies on each of the first four Thursdays in October; the final Thursday, October 30, is part of TCM's Halloween salute.

Lansbury got her start at MGM in the mid-1940s, and had a breakout role right at the start of her career in Gaslight which got her an Oscar nomination. That movie is being saved for the actual centenary on October 16. For the first night of the salute we get mother MGM stuff from the 1940s, starting at 8:00 PM with the bright Technicolor musical The Harvey Girls and concluding at 4:00 AM with National Velvet.

October 9 sees more dramatic work, including the underrated Dear Heart (October 9, 11:30 PM), although Angela Lansbury really only has a small role in this one showing up at the end. It's really a movie for Glenn Ford and Geraldine Page. I blogged about it (looks at link) in 2011 and linked to that post at the beginning of 2012 the last time Lansbury was Star of the Month. My goodness I've been blogging a long time. There's also In the Cool of the Day at 8:00 PM, which I already blogged about back in 2021.

The actual centenary kicks off with Gaslight at 8:00 PM, as I mentioned above, and also includes another tremendous performance in The Manchurian Candidate at midnight, while the final night is a mishmash of films including All Fall Down (12:45 AM, October 24) and Death on the Nile, which apparently I haven't blogged about yet. There are several other all-star Agatha Christie adaptations from the 1970s and 1980s that I have done posts on, which might be part of why I thought I might have done a post on it.
