Errol Flyn as Robin Hood in The Adventures of Robin Hood (Apr. 4, 10:15 PM)
Now that we're into the first full week of a new month, it's time for a new Star of the Month on TCM. This time, that star is Errol Flynn, and his movies will be airing every Monday in prime time. Actually, the movies will be continuing well into Tuesdays, as there are four Monday nights and TCM will be showing some 40 Flynn movies over the course of the month.
Flynn started his Hollywood career in bit parts like the murder victim in the Perry Mason film The Case of the Curious Bride (Apr. 12, 9:00 AM); but it wasn't long before Warner Bros. cast him in the action film Captain Blood (Apr. 4, 8:00 PM), which made him a star and gave him one of the enduring Hollywood film pairings of Flynn and Olivia de Havilland.
This got Flynn put in a lot of swashbuckling movies (see the sword fight with Basil Rathbone in The Adventures of Robin Hood), and costume dramas, be they westers like Dodge City (Apr. 18, 8:00 PM), or The Private Lives of Elizabeth and EssexFour's a Crowd (Apr. 26, 6:00 AM).
