Anthony Quinn (r.) and Kirk Douglas in a promotional still from Lust For Life
This month marks the centenary of the birth of actor Anthony Quinn. So it's only logical that TCM would make Quinn their Star of the Month this month. Quinn made enough movies that TCM can spread them out over five nights. Every Wednesday in April, TCM will be running Quinn's films in prime time. This first Wednesday sees both of Quinn's Best Supporting Actor Oscar-winning performances, including Lust For Life, pictured above.
The night starts at 8:00 PM with Viva Zapata!, which brought Quinn his first Oscar for playing the brother of Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapato (Marlon Brando).
That's followed at 10:15 PM by what might be Quinn's best-known role, as Zorba the Greek, although it didn't win Quinn an Oscar.
The aforementioned Lust For Life comes on at 12:45 AM, with Quinn playing Paul Gauguin opposite Kirk Douglas' Vincent van Gogh.
At 3:00 AM is Quinn in a small role in the James Cagney vehicle City For Conquest.
Finally, at 5:00 AM, Quinn promots boxer Arthur Kennedy in Knockout.
