Now that the 20th anniversary month of April 2014 is over, we return to much of the regular TCM programming. This being the first Friday in May, there's a new Friday night spotlight, which this month focuses on Australian cinema, mostly looking at Australia's golden age of the 1970s and 1980s.
The spotlight will be presented by Jacki Weaver, an Australian actress who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in the movie Animal Kingdom, which I blogged about last November. Fortuitously, Animal Kingdom is on the schedule twice in the next day or so, at 5:10 PM today and early tomorrow morning at 4:25 AM, both on Encore Mystery.
TCM's article on the spotlight says that Weaver will be introducing the first three movies in each night's lineup, for 15 movies in all, but TCM will be filling the night out with more Australian movies. Tonight's lineup is:
Breaker Morant at 8:00 PM;
Gallipoli at 10:00 PM;
Tim at midnight;
Mad Max at 2:00 AM; and
Road Games, filmed in Australia with two American leads (Stacy Keach and Jamie Lee Curtis) at 4:00 AM
